Kilianplan Roter Torwall, Wolfgang Kilian, 1626

Detail from the kilian plan of augsburg, engraved in copper in eight parts in 1626 by wolfgang kilian based on the measurements by christoph schissler (as of around 1600). The detail shows the area of the city fortifications around the red gate wall, with the wide water-filled city moat, the aqueduct bridge to the red gate, the waterworks at the red gate with the large and small water towers and the box tower. The large box tower still had a gable roof at the time, the small water tower an onion dome. The holy spirit hospital by elias holl is already marked on this plan, although it was only in the planning stage or still under construction at the time. Date: 1626.
