John Colet by Hans Holbein the Younger, Hans Holbein the Younger, circa 1535

Portrait of john colet. Coloured chalks reinforced with pen and ink and silverpoint on pink-primed paper, 26. 8 × 20. 5 cm, royal collection, windsor castle. Holbein based this drawing of john colet (1467–1519), the humanist scholar and founder of st paul's school, on a bust by the sculptor pietro torrigiano (1472–1528). Other hands have reinforced holbein's drawing, particularly in the cap. References susan foister, holbein in england, london: tate, 2006, isbn 1854376454, p. 107. K. T.
