Kupferstich hersfeld 1655, Matthäus Merian

Hersfeld in 1655. In the centre of the town is the town church, to the left of it is the monastery church with its one west tower and the crossing tower. On the left is the peterstor and the suburb in front of it with the stone bridges over the fulda and the haune. Next to the fulda bridge, outside the town is the special hospice. Also on the left on the hill is the johannesberg provost's office and below it, vaguely indicated on the horizon in the fulda valley, is eichhof castle. On the right in the picture you can see the klaustor, above it on the frauenberg the ruins of the local church and monastery buildings and below it on the bank of the fulda the ruins of the klauskirche. Date: 1655.
