339. The oldest cemeteries in the village. Cherna, northern dobrudja. In turkish times, the cemeteries in the villages in northern dobrudja were always in the church yard, however, where the yard was narrow, the cemeteries were moved to the edge of the village; when the village grew to such an extent that the cemeteries remained in the middle of the village, surrounded by yards, then they were moved once more outside the village. So, in almost every dobruja village (in northern dobrudja) we now find three or four cemeteries - the very new ones from 1880-1885. This way - away from the village. The images show the oldest cemeteries in the village. Black, surrounded by courtyards. Most of the plates are uncut, crosses are engraved on their faces; those crosses which are surrounded by quartered engraved figures are male, and those with a circle are female. The church in the village black was built in 1840. (according to the inscription on a plaque), but these cemeteries existed before the church 20-30 years. Sketched on 4. X. 1917. (vol. 7, obr. 103. ). Date: 4 October 1917.
