Ivan Enchev-Vidyu Bulgarian Folk Crosses 230, June 1916

230. Cross - tombstone, around the cemetery in the yard of the church "st. Athanasii" in the town of gorna oryahovitsa. Carved from white finely hollow limestone. Drawing and technique good. Four-winged; its upper wing is in the form of a trapezoid, with its base turned upwards; the middle two wings are square and small; the lower one is large and narrows upwards, becoming pentagonal. One and a half cm inward from the contour on the face is a line engraved parallel to it. This line develops into a frieze - parallel to the uppermost outline of the cross, and another at the frieze of the corners: where the side lines of the lower wing break. The friezes are of a zigzag motif, with an isosceles cross carved on both side wings. In the middle of the face, based on the lower frieze, is carved a semicircular cross, in which the spear with the cross is engraved; reads 1863; under the frieze. Dimensions: 88x35x9 cm. Sketched in june 1916. Date: June 1916.
