One of more than 80 copper engravings from the funeral procession held in 1680 for the ruler of the welfs, duke johann friedrich of brunswick-calenberg, who died in augsburg on december 28, 1679. In order to capture the event, in whose visual design the polymath and hanoverian court councilor gottfried wilhelm leibniz was involved, leibniz had specially brought the copper engraver johann georg lange back to hanover from hamburg. The scene here, composed of two copperplate engravings, has now captured the following for posterity: behind the ducal chamberlain and court quartermaster (left on engraving plate 65) follow the named marshals "simon de la chevallerie", the landdrost von bahr ludolff von roßing, lord of the tower and hereditary chef, as well as "frantz ernst frey and noble lord of platen, secret councillor and chief marshal" arendt ludwig von hagethausen, marshal and major general martin von recharo, marshal. Behind them - the only one wearing a head covering - follows "the most reverend and most illuminated prince and lord, mr ernst augustus", also bishop of osnabrück and duke of brunswick-lüneburg; "our most gracious lord". The prince is accompanied by the bailiff and chamberlain wilcken von schlenke and the marshal frantz wilhelm droste. Behind two other personalities, whose names are not mentioned here, the last one - on the far right on the panel numbered 66 - is the fruit foreman "christ. Fried. V. Harling" carrying the train of the most serene highness. The double page of the work "iusta funebria serenissimo principi joanni friderico brunsvicensium et luneburge: duci a revermo et sermo fratre ernesto augusto episcopo osnabrugensi duci brunsv: et luneb. Persoluta" published in 1685 comes from the printing shop of the göttingen university printer gottfried kaspar wächter in rinteln. Date: 1685.
