Portrait of thomas, baron wentworth. Black and coloured chalks, pen and brush and indian ink, metalpoint, on pink-primed paper, 31. 8 × 21. 2 cm, royal collection, windsor castle. The drawing has been very much damaged and does not contain holbein's trademark left-handed shading (parker, p. 57). Thomas wentworth, 1st baron wentworth (c. 1501–1551), was raised to the peerage in 1529. He supported the royal divorce and attended henry viii in boulogne in 1532. Under edward vi, wentworth became a member of the privy council and lord chamberlain. Date: circa 1532-43.
