ange-joseph antoine roux was the second artist in a dynasty of marseille ship portrait painters, a tradition inaugurated by his father, joseph roux (1752-93). The family hydrographic business included marine pictures as an adjunct, and the combined output of the various members spanned a century, with watercolours being produced for french, british and many american clients.
