French fishing craft beached on northern french coast (after 1880) this drypoint etching features a centrally placed beached ship with its oars up. Crew members sit at the stern. At the shore, to the left of the composition, two figures observe the ship. Suggestions of ships are dotted along the coastline. From 1851-79 wyllie travelled extensively along the coast of northern france. Technique includes drypoint.;mounted with pad8347. W. L. Wyllie (1851-1931) was a british marine artist. Born in london, wyllie painted, drew, and etched thames scenes throughout his life. He moved to portsmouth in 1907, where he continued working, supported the restoration of the victory and painted the trafalgar panorama. Early in his career wyllie was an illustrator for the graphic, and he became a member of the royal academy in 1907. Date: after 1880. Dimensions: Mount: 99 mm x 73 mm. Collection: Fine art.
