Seghers, a flemish specialist in painting flowers, often combined his flowers with a stone statue. The bust statue was added later by an unknown artist. The bust represents king william iii, the stadholder of holland who was also king of england. The sprigs of orange blossom and the orange lilies refer to his family name: van oranje.
