Greenwich Park RMG PW7618, Francis Nicholson

Greenwich park a well-detailed pencil sketch of distant london, taken from across the front of the royal observatory, whose east pavilion on flamsteed house is visible upper left. The windmills at millwall on the isle of dogs can be seen over the trees below the observatory on the right. The drawing is inscribed 'greenwich park', lower right and bears colour annotations; 'white', 'red' and 'yellow brick' on the pavilion and its foundation wall on the left. Clouds are sketchily indicated in the sky. Nicholson (1753-1844) was an important early watercolour painter who came to london from yorkshire in 1800. Greenwich park. Date: early 19th century.
