Gheorghe tattarescu - aurora - copy after guido reni, oil on canvas, 0. 68x1. 36m - gheorghe tattarescu museum. This is a copy executed by gheorghe tattarescu (1820 – 1894) during his studies in rome, after the fresco "l'aurora" from the pallavicini-rospigliosi palace in rome, a complex mural composition painted by guido reni in 1614 at the order of cardinal scipione borghese, a well-known art patron and collector. The collection of the gheorghe tattarescu memorial museum holds several copies after the masters, executed by tattarescu during his studies in rome, but also during his travels through europe. One of the young artist's favorite authors was guido reni (november 4, 1575, bologna, italy – august 18, 1642), italian painter, representative of the baroque. Guido reni studied in rome where he was a student of denys calvaert and ludovico carracci. His work is deeply influenced by raphael, the carracci brothers and caravaggio. After annibale carracci's death, he is named the head of the classicist painters of reggio emilia. He is considered to be one of the most refined painters, with an exceptional technical quality and perfect harmony in the conception of monumental compositions, which of course tattarescu was particularly attracted to. The work "aurora" is executed in oil on canvas, has dimensions of 68x136 cm, is unsigned and undated (1850?). Date: 1850.
