Plate 72 to 'eccentric excursions, or. Literary & pictorial sketches of countenance, character and country, in. . England & south wales'. Three horsemen ride close together (left to right) past a posting-inn, whose sign, 'the bull's head', hangs just over the foremost rider, who wears a broad-brimmed hat and a spencer (see bmsat 8192) and lashes and spurs his horse, with a fixed scowl. On his left rides a stiff-looking man. Behind them rides a fat parson. Above the open gateway of the inn is inscribed 'licensed to deal in post horses'. A young man seated in an open casement window (left) watches the riders. 4 march 1797 hand-coloured etching. Date: 1797. Dimensions: Height: 183 mm; Width: 243 mm. Medium: paper.
