English ships getting under way RMG PW6930, circa 1675

English ships getting under way on the right, a port bow view of a ship bearing up before the wind with her main topsail atrip and fore topsail half-mast high. In the background there are four other ships still at anchor, two lying head to wind and two others across the wind. This is a pencil and wash drawing by the younger, signed in brown ink with part of the signature ‘w. V. Vj’. It is a faint drawing with pencil-work added by a later hand, particularly to the ship on the right. English ships getting under way. Date: circa 1675.
