Catherine over her shoulder. The portrait was painted in 1795 by order of catherine ii and was in the romanov gallery of the winter palace until 1918. According to the memoirs of vigee-lebrun, she painted two half-length and two bust-length copies. One of the half-length copies, a copy of vigee-lebrun's original, which belongs to the hermitage and was taken from the gatchina palace, was at the historical portrait exhibition (1870). ".
