The Portrait of a Man with the Pearl, Michael Sittow

The Portrait of a Man with the Pearl, Michael Sittow

This portrait follows the exclusive modes of representation of the hanseatic painter michel sittow, which are closely linked to flemish art due to his apprenticeship at the bruges school. This work could be included in the late period of the painter's activity and approximately at the time when he traveled to spain for the second time, passing through the netherlands. The historian josé luis sancho identified the sitter, and very correctly according to some authors, with odet de foix (1485-1528), count of cominges and viscount of lautrec, based on the great resemblance of the character with the full-length portrait of said individual that is preserved in the senate palace of madrid and that comes from the old collection of the marquis of leganés. Object Type: painting. Date: between circa 1515 and circa 1517. Dimensions: height: 22 cm (8.6 in); width: 18 cm (7 in). Medium: oil on panel. Collection: Royal Palace of Madrid. El hombre de la perla (Palacio Real de Madrid)
