Portrayed as a bust, his face, with strong and angular features, seems to represent about twenty years of age. With abundant hair, bushy eyebrows, a mustache and a goatee, he wears a frock coat, vest and bow tie, fixing his gaze on the viewer. The portrait is a very interesting work of the youthful production of raimundo de madrazo, in which he approaches the frank and direct realism of french portraiture at that time, using a wide and undone invoice, with energetic impasto and great pictorial effect, visible above all in the design of the clothing, concentrating all his attention on the vigorous modeling of his model's head, bathed in a violent chiaroscuro that shadows his left side, within a plastic language that will be transformed deeply into its mature production.
