Inside a church, a group of women covered in cloaks and veils surrounds a figure that is difficult to identify, man or woman, dressed in white petticoats and a priestly stole across his chest, wearing white stockings and pumps. She is sitting on the floor screaming with her eyes wide open towards the altar, while two women hold her by the arms. A priest in the background reads the exorcism ritual and sprinkles holy water on the demonized figure with hyssop. The style is after goya's death, imitating late paintings by the artist such as scene from the asylum, exhibited at the academia de san fernando in madrid since 1838, a date that could place the period of execution of this painting. Object Type: painting. Date: 19th century. Dimensions: height: 48 cm (18.8 in) ; width: 60 cm (23.6 in). Medium: oil on canvas. Collection: Museo del Prado.
