Robert wilhelm ekman's painting of reading the bible in a finnish peasant sitting room. It is an "improved" version of the work of the same name painted by ekman the previous year. The work was bought fresh in 1857 by birmingham grain merchant joseph sturge, when it ended up in england. Kansallis-osake-pankki bought the painting back to finland in 1960 and it is now part of the art foundation merita's collections. Object Type: painting. Date: 1857.
