label copy: "surrounded by a spacious sky, the geese in this scene fly in formation. The last goose bends its neck to the right, suggesting that something there has caught its attention. The nostalgic poem on the print reads: will it come againanother night like this one? wild geese and the moon. Wild geese (kari) in flight across the face of the moon were among the most popular motifs during the 1830s when demand for natural history prints reached a peak. The season depicted here is the eighth month, the time when migrating geese return; the regularity of their migration made geese a suitable symbol of enduring reliability. "
