Pentecost: the Holy Ghost descends upon Mary and the apostles, Anthony van Dyck, between 1618 and 1620

In the "outpouring of the holy spirit," van dyck depicted the miracle of pentecost, which is described in the acts of the apostles in the new testament (2:1-4): at pentecost, the apostles gathered and were filled with the holy spirit, so that they began to preach in other languages. In the painting, the dark room is only illuminated by the divine light from above, the dove of the holy spirit hovers over the apostles who have been moved. Small flames have settled above their heads, as a sign of the reception of the holy spirit. The painting is on display in the picture gallery of sanssouci. Object Type: painting.
