The noblewoman elsebeth buchwald, her daughter karen kaas and the nephew holger rud has moved into gjorslev slot during a short time of peace. But then the german captain esner in swedish service and his 25 soldiers comes to the castle to get quartering. Elsebeth buchwald fears what may happens but lets holger rud welcomes captain esner.
