Dronningens Vagtmester 14, Poul Steffensen

Illustration by poul steffensen from the danish novel dronningens vagtmester by carit etlar which takes place during the dano-swedish war in 1658-1660. The noblewoman elsebeth buchwald has requested that svend poulsen, gøngehøvdingen, holes her hidden treasures at the søholm castle. On their way they meets a peasant who is feeding his bullocks. He tells that he is on his way to søholm with a coffin for the curate tange who has hung himself. Ib abelsøn and svend poulsen then pretends to be the brother and father of tange so that they can get into the castle in that way. Date: Original illustration from the 1890s, here reprint from 1909..
