Illustration by poul steffensen from the danish novel dronningens vagtmester by carit etlar which takes place during the dano-swedish war in 1658-1660. Ib abelsøn has been captured by the swedish soldiers at the gjorslev castle and has been forced up to the roof of the tower but the chicken boy palle has helped him with surviving. A day the fisherman søren comes to the castle and tells palle that svend poulsen, gøngehøvdingen, has returned. Palle and søren then goes out in the forest to the moor vibekes bagerovn where svend poulsen and his gønger are hiding. At first palle feels a bit shy by meeting the hero svend poulsen but then tells him everything that happened. Svend poulsen (app. 1610 - app. 1679, at the left) was a real person but the story is fiction. The look of svend poulsen is also fantasy as there is no known portraits of him. Date: Original illustration from the 1890s, here reprint from 1909..
