The german captain esner in swedish service and his 25 soldiers has gotten quartering the gjorslev castle. But the captain has begun to take still more of the silverware of elsebeth buchwald who lives there and the soldiers slaughters the chicken and ducks. Elsebeth buchwald, her daughter karen kaas and the nephew holger rud discuss what must be done. They agree to get svend poulsen, gøngehøvdingen, to help them fleeing to copenhagen.
