Dronningens Vagtmester 68, Poul Steffensen

Dronningens Vagtmester 68, Poul Steffensen

Illustration by poul steffensen from the danish novel dronningens vagtmester by carit etlar which takes place during the dano-swedish war in 1658-1660. Svend poulsen, gøngehøvdingen, has helped elsebeth buchwald, her daughter karen kaas and the nephew holger rud in fleeing to copenhagen. Here elsebeth buchwald hosts a party where she tells that karen kaas has been betrothed with holger rud. But karen kaas hasn't been informed and declares that she loves another. Svend poulsen steps forward and tells that it is he. Elsebeth buchwald then draws karens kaas away. Svend poulsen (app. 1610 - app. 1679) was a real person but the story is fiction. The look of svend poulsen is also fantasy as there is no known portraits of him. Date: Original illustration from the 1890s, here reprint from 1909..
