Illustration by poul steffensen from the danish novel dronningens vagtmester by carit etlar which takes place during the dano-swedish war in 1658-1660. Ib abelsøn has been captured by the swedish soldiers at the gjorslev castle and has been forced up to the roof of the tower by the german captain esner in swedish service. Ib abelsøn however has secured himself against falling down with his belt. The chicken boy palle then figures out that the raven plus of ib abelsøn of which he takes care can fly up to him with some food. They do it a few times so that ib abelsøn survives instead of dying of hunger as captain esner expected him to do. Date: Original illustration from the 1890s, here reprint from 1909..
