Dronningens Vagtmester 20, Poul Steffensen

Illustration by poul steffensen from the danish novel dronningens vagtmester by carit etlar which takes place during the dano-swedish war in 1658-1660. Svend poulsen, gøngehøvdingen, and ib abelsøn has been at the søholm castle to hole the hidden treasures of the noblewoman elsebeth buchwald. They pretended to be the father and the brother of the dead curate tange to get in and hide the treasures in the coffin a peasant came with. Now they leaves before the swedish soldiers at the castle closes the gate. The swedes don't know about the treasure and that they left the evil kulsoen as a prisoner at the castle. Søholm was pulled down around 1715 so the look may be the imagination of the artist. Date: Original illustration from the 1890s, here reprint from 1909..
