Drevnosti RG v3 ill114, before 1853

Berdysh and axes berdysh, in polish bardycz and bard, is one of the most ancient hand-to-hand weapons in the form of a wide axe on a long shaft with sharp horns, like the moon; for this reason the berdysh was called by the romans lunata securis; by the slavs simply a poleaxe, by the goths - bart and bardisan2. Berdysh, depicted in figure no. 114, are kept in the armoury chamber under no. 243 and 244, where they arrived in 1786 from the life guards moscow battalion. Date: before 1853.
