Helmets although shishak means the same as helmet, but, according to inventories, shishaks were mainly the name we gave to helmets in the form of skulls or inverted cups, which had a knob with an eye or a ring at the top to secure the brush or tail, and sometimes a tube at the back for feathers or combs (fig. No. 29, fig. 1), like plate caps. Thus, we can conclude that shishak got its name from the knob on the top. Shishak in figure no. 23 (fig. 4), according to the inventory book of 1687, is the work of moscow master nikita davydov; the back of the head is replaced in it with an inappropriate one: “moscow shishak of nikita by davydov, in the crown and in the base is embedded gold of cheadaiskie grass; and between the crown and the crown eight targets are cut in gold; the ears are cut from cheadai grass; on the boards on the back of the head gold is cut in targets; in the crown and on the ears in the fastening thirty burdock nails of silver gilded; the open nose is gilded completely. Lined with wormwood. And according to the current census of the year (1687) and upon inspection, that crown coincided with the previous census books; the ties are of yellow lacquer; the price is two hundred rubles. " the damask helmet depicted in figure no. 25, decorated with gold targets with sapphires and turquoises, fully corresponds to the rich bracers (armory chamber inventory, no. 78), purchased from princess mstislavskaya, probably after the death of her husband, prince fyodor ivanovich mstislavsky. This helmet also has inappropriate earflaps and an aventail attached to it, which were already missing when the inventory was compiled in 1687: “the helmet is not armed with damask, the crown has gold inlaid with arabic words, it has six gold targets; each target has a worm-shaped spark and two turquoises; on top is a gold cloak with a gold ring, on the cloak are three worm-shaped sapphires and three turquoises in nests; around the cloak there is a gold filigree crown, in it there are turquoises and sapphire sparks in nests; on the sides there are six cloaks, large and small, with sapphire and turquoise stones, and a place for the cloak is more open; gold is embedded between the cloaks. And according to the current census of the year (1687) and upon inspection, that cloak matched the previous books, its price is one hundred and fifteen rubles, and in the previous census books it is written sixth. " according to the inventory book of 1687, there were 3,276 old cloaks, which probably constituted the armament of german regiments. A detailed description of them is not included, but the upper image in figure no. 24 and the lower one in figure no. 26 can serve as examples; on the first cloak, an overhead copper double-headed eagle is fixed in front on the crown; on the second - on the shield protecting the nose. Date: before 1853.
