Rosales' portrait shows the girl at eleven years old, in a very graceful attitude and confident in her social position, just at the moment of her father's greatest political power as president of the government. He appeared in 1871 at the national exhibition of fine arts, where he was shocked by his departure from the portrait that until then was common in spain. The greater monumentality with which the painter endows the figure, the perfect capture of the qualities of fabrics, the variations of tones produced by the reflections were very striking aspects. Added to this is knowledge of the spanish pictorial tradition, placing the girl in an environment very similar to the portrait of prince baltasar carlos the hunter, made by velázquez (p01189). In the same way, the pose is reminiscent of certain real portraits made by goya. Object Type: painting. Date: 1871. Dimensions: height: 163 cm (64.1 in); width: 106 cm (41.7 in).
