Portrait of the spanish ecclesiastic luis fernández de portocarrero (1635-1709), who became interim viceroy of sicily in 1677, archbishop of toledo and councilor of state during the reign of charles ii of spain. He was in charge of the government of spain during the agony of king charles ii as valid, lieutenant and governor of the kingdom and during the absence of king philip v of spain due to the war of the spanish succession as governor of the kingdom.
