Portrait of Prince Joachim, Lucas Cranach the Elder, 1532
The figure of prince joachim is set further back from the picture plane than that of his brother. He looks in three-quarter profile to the left. Also here along the top edge the date (1532) and the sitter's age (23) have in part been preserved. His hair and beard are slightly reddish in colour. He is wearing a dark coat with a fur collar. His left hand is decorated with three rings, one of which is a signet ring bearing the anhalt coat-of-arms on his index finger. His white shirt has a neck band decorated with pearls, which includes the motto 'als in eren'. Joachim wears a golden pearl necklace. There is a contemporary painted woodcut from the cranach workshop showing the münsterberg coat-of-arms on the reverse of the wooden panel. Object Type: painting. Date: 1532.
