Pitt sits in profile to the right against the trunk of an aged and quasi-derelict tree inscribed 'royal-oak', his feet resting on a branch. He is eating a small crown held in his right hand, and is excreting upon the head of a sleeping boy seated on the ground leaning against the tree. The boy, 'johnny', holds a horn-book inscribed 'john / bull / a. B. C. / d. E. F'. 1 june 1796
