Copperplate print by jacobus neeffs, 1653 in 'sancti bernardi melliflui doctoris ecclesiae, pulcherrima & exemplaris vitæ medulla'. Scene portrays st. Bernard's mother, pregnant with him, and a dog barking beside her. It is a reference the legend reporting that bernard's mother dreamt during her pregnancy that there was a dog, not a baby, in her womb. She goes to visit a holy man and ask his advice; he tells her that her child is destined to become a great preacher.
