The painting shows the karlskirche in vienna. In the foreground, the danube canal is depicted with staffage, the banks of which are still undeveloped. [4] behind it, on rising ground, is the karlskirche. Next to the church, built by johann bernhard fischer von erlach (1656‒1723) and josef emanuel fischer von erlach (1693‒1742) between 1716 and 1725, there is a wing of the schwarzenberg garden palace on the left and the towers of the rochus and cemetery churches in the background.
