Design in an oval. Nine men's heads are crowded together in the first two rows of the pit, whose spikes are in the foreground. They gaze intently to the right with expressions of misery or concern. One weeps, with spectacles pushed up, another's eyes are closed. One holds a playbill: 'theatre royal \ drury lane \ isabella \ or the \ fatal marriage'.
