A galjoot in a gale
this drawing, which is rubbed, is included in robinson’s catalogue with less certainty than other drawings on blue-grey paper thought to be by van de velde. There is therefore a possibility that the drawing may be by another artist such as samuel scott who made similar drawings on blue-grey paper, some of which are in the national maritime museum’s collection. The drawing is unsigned. A galjoot in a gale. Date: circa 1700. Dimensions: Sheet: 202 x 291 mm; Mount: 15 3/4 in x 21 7/8 in. Collection: Fine art.
