A galjoot in a light breeze
a lightly handled view of a galjoot (a type of small dutch coastal vessel) seen from the starboard bow. Another, similar vessel is visible behind. The drawing belongs to a group of compositional studies that combine pencil drawing with a loose, light wash. However, robinson regarded the attribution to van de velde, the younger, as tentative. The drawing is inscribed: ‘w. V. V j’. A galjoot in a light breeze. Date: circa 1665. Dimensions: Primary support: 187 mm x 149 mm; Mount: 478 mm x 316 mm. Collection: Fine art.
