A fort on a river with state barges at anchor this winding-river scene is probably a view of the medway. In the centre middle distance is a small coastal vessel with its mainsail hauled up, behind which is a larger ship sailing before a light breeze. Three state barges lie at anchor in the foreground. On the far bank of the river is a fort, possibly hoo ness (now called folly point), and a church (st werburgh, hoo) on the horizon. Alternatively, the buildings on the left might be cockham fort, looking north towards hoo. A fort on a river with state barges at anchor. Date: 1675? or about 1690.
