A Dutch pink in a heavy sea RMG PV5286, 1705

A dutch pink in a heavy sea this line drawing shows a pink (a small, square-rigged vessel commonly used at the time for fishing) negotiating a heavy sea. Two other pinks and a larger ship at anchor feature in the distance. The efficiency with which the artist indicates the form and lilt of the oncoming vessel betrays that years of experience that the artist, by then in his seventies, had accrued. The drawing is inscribed on the reverse, upper left: ‘w. V. V j 1705’. A dutch pink in a heavy sea. Date: 1705. Dimensions: Secondary support: 243 mm x 295 mm; Primary support: 128 mm x 181 mm; Mount: 318 mm x 482 mm. Collection: Fine art.
