A dutch ketch and a kaag in a light breeze the inscriptions identifying the artist could be later additions, but are probably accurate in attributing this compositional drawing to willem van de velde, the younger. To the left is a port broadside view of a kaag, behind which is a larger ketch and, on the far right, a small rowing boat heading towards the shore. A flute in the right distance balances the composition. The drawing is inscribed in the lower left: ‘vandervelde’; and in the lower right: ‘w. W. V j’. A dutch ketch and a kaag in a light breeze.
