Dazzle-camouflaged cargo vessels at sea RMG PV0923, William Lionel Wyllie, 1917
Dazzle-camouflaged cargo vessels at sea
the two dazzle ships are general cargo vessels, but there is no obvious evidence of the dazzle-paint patterns shown being applied to any particular merchant ship. The vessel dimly discerned between them appears to be an 'ascot'-class paddle minesweeper of which there were 32 built between 1916 and 1918. The date of the drawing is therefore likely to be 1917-18. Date: 1917. Dimensions: 251 mm x 353 mm. Collection: Fine art.
