An imaginary civil war scene, apparently showing a troop of cromwellian cavalry calling at the country home of a royalist, with the intention of arresting him. The royalist squire is enjoying a peaceful evening in front of the fire, as can be seen from the warm and cosy glow from behind his curtains, and is in for an unpleasant shock. To the soldiers it's just another mission, and they chat nonchalantly as the squire's life is about to be so drastically interrupted. Object Type: painting. Date: 1894.
