in 1789 after fleeing france following the parisian mobs march on versailles, vigée le brun set out for italy on what would turn out to be twelve years of exile from france. There count wilczek, the austrian ambassador to milan, suggested she move to vienna. This portrait of countess bystry is a wonderful example of the portraits she produced in vienna. Object Type: painting. Genre: portrait. Date: 1793.
