An unknown Lady, by Hans Holbein the Younger, 1532–43

Portrait of an unknown lady. Black and coloured chalks, pen and indian ink on pink-primed paper, 28. 8 × 22. 8 cm, royal collection, windsor castle. The headdress may have been strenghtened by later hands, but the drawing is in good condition, with fine penwork (parker, p. 48). Holbein has noted satin and black velvet for the planned painting. Date: 1532–43.
