Portrait of an unknown gentleman, inscribed "n poines knight". Black and coloured chalks on pink-primed paper, 30. 1 × 21 cm, royal collection, windsor castle. The drawing has survived with a collection of drawings at windsor mainly by hans holbein the younger. In his 1945 study of the windsor drawings, however, k. T. Parker rejected this drawing as a holbein on grounds of style, detecting french characteristics in the draughtsmanship. He also rejected the inscription, added later, which in his view mistakenly associates the sitter with sir nicholas poyntz. Reference
