Retable of Cafaggiolo, Alesso Baldovinetti, circa 1453

Retable of Cafaggiolo, Alesso Baldovinetti, circa 1453

The altarpiece was commissioned for the chapel of the medici villa of cafaggiolo, renovated by michelozzo in 1451. Wedgwood kennedy hypothesizes a commission by piero il gottoso, for whom baldovinetti had already worked in the chapel of the ss. Annunziata and, perhaps, in that of s. Croce. The scholar suggests a dating for the commission to 1453, the year of birth of giuliano, piero's second son, supported by the presence of san giuliano together with the other "medici" saints. Object Type: painting. Genre: religious art. Date: circa 1453. Dimensions: height: 176 cm (69.2 in) ; width: 166 cm (65.3 in). Medium: tempera on panel. Depicted People: Virgin Mary, Christ Child, Francis of Assisi. Collection: Uffizi Gallery. Baldovinetti, Alesso - Pala di Cafagiolo
