Baines Falls by Sunrise col print, Thomas Baines

Title: "the falls by sunrise, with the 'spray cloud' rising 1,200 feet. " additional text: "t. Baines delt_t. Picken, lith. London published october 4th. 1865 by day & son, (limited) lithographers gate street, lincoln's inn fields. Wc. Day & son (limited) lith. " content: victoria falls with party of travellers. Europeans are setting up a camera, sketching and frying breakfast. Africans are carrying loads (including ribs and haunches of meat). Different types of dress can be seen: the white men are wearing shirt, trousers and brimmed hats; some of the black men wear loincloths, others shirt and trousers, and their headgear includes head cloths and fez-like hats. Three figures are resting or asleep, two wrapped (in blankets?). Two birds (vultures?) sit in the tree overhead. Palm and baobab trees are visible in the distance. Date: original publication 1865.
