Ambroise Thomas by Toulouse-Lautrec, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, February 1896

Caricature in le rire, n°66. The composer ambroise thomas (seated in the armchair behind the conductor) is depicted at a rehearsal for concert of his work which included the prologue to his 1882 opera françoise de rimini. Lautrec made the sketch in january 1896. It was one of the last depictions of thomas who died the following month. See: masson, georges (2011).
